John Waring
John graduated with a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Newcastle in 1990 and continued with a Bachelor of Arts Honours (Psych.) at the same University finishing in 1991. He then went on to post graduate studies and completed a Master of Psychology (Clinical) at the University of Newcastle in 1996. His Thesis for that degree was a clinical study "Problem Solving Appraisal, Hopelessness, and Coping Resources: a Test of a Suicide Ideation Model" John is a registered psychologist with the NSW Psychologists Registration Board(No: PS0029087) and a Member of the Australian Psychological Society (MAPS) (Member No: 100939). John's work experience, particulary with children and adolescents has been extensive with five years working on a developmental disability resource team, assessing and advising on the developmental status of children, providing counseling and behavioural management advice to parents and teachers. In addition to that role he has worked for 5 years on a child protection team. Part of that role requires providing clinical assessment reports of abused children's needs (mainly for Children Courts), consultancy advice to field workers and foster carers along with counseling and behavioural management of abused children in substitute care settings. John has spent the last four years practising at Waring Redpath and Associates specialising in working with children 0-19 years of age offering a full range of psychological services including: diagnosis and assessment , behavioural management, counseling, parenting advice and training. He has conducted numerous training seminars for early childhood workers, preschool teachers and parents. He is also utilised as a casual guest lecturer to the Psychology Department (University of Newcastle) undergraduate and post graduate programmes lecturing on child protection and substitute care issues as well as intellectual disability. John also publishes a regular column in the Newcastle Herald relating to child and family issues which are contained on this site for your reference.John can also often be heard being interviewed on ABC radio regarding topics of interest to parents.
